One of the most important issues
nowadays is to prepare our children to create a better world in the
future. This is an education issue that starts in the very beginning of
their lives. How can day care centres and pre-schools contribute for
this goal? Our children spend most of their first years in these
institutions, and parents trust the teachers and other professionals of
education to do a good job with their kids. In fact, the most important
figures in this equation are the education professionals that work
directly with the children. Having this in mind, one of these
institutions' main concerns should be to have a clear view of what goes
on in the workspace everyday between the professionals and the children.
The aim of this work is to propose a model for an information system
that reports relevant information regarding the evaluation of education
professionals. With this information, pre-school directors can have a
much better understanding of what is going well, and what needs to be
changed in the institution, in order to provide better care for the
children.
In the last three summer terms since the organisation of a Lego-robots contest for High School kids was used as a real-world project for the project weeks at HBRS. From summer to summer the contests got more and more popular among the High School kids. Because the lecturer stayed the same, experiences and feedback obtained by the students could be implemented in the contest the following year. So, the whole event improved from year to year. This project also got very popular among the engineering students because the project included the execution of the contest itself after preparing every detail of it for three weeks. And this was a lot of fun despite all the work and stress which came with it. Read More
The main methods of this study were interview with participants before and after playing “EDUBUZZ kids” English spelling game app. Students learning experience was also looked from conducting spelling test before and after playing the spelling game. The written spelling test of five words was carried out before letting the participants play the game. Each participants were given chance to play the game with the same spelling that they have done in spelling test. After playing game, once again they were asked to do the test for the same words.
Further, the students have to get used to the challenges of the Lego-robots in order to create reasonable tasks for the kids at the contest. So, they get time to learn more about the robots and are faced to the contest-parcour of the year before. This gives them a pretty good feeling how hard or easy it is to work with those Lego robots making them doing the competition tasks. On the fourth day of the first week a contest would find place where five teams of each 3 students would compete against each other to do the contest of the year before. The last day was saved for long discussions and voting abut the main topic/motto of the contest including interesting ideas for tasks. The first project week would end after making a final decision for the overall motto of the contest and after discussing into what teams the students should divide in order to work on the different tasks in the next two project weeks. In general, 3 to 4 teams divide up: the organization team, the parcour and settings maker team and the score calculation team. Each student then has to choose on which team he/she wants to participate. So far, always all teams got enough members for the tasks they had to accomplish. Click Here
