Learning In Higher Education - Karthi Vidhyalaya ICSE School

Mobile learning (m-learning) is an emerging area of distance education and there is a great interest in incorporating it in higher education, due to the mobile devices capabilities which are rapidly increasing and renders mobile devices more efficient and more attractive to students. On the other hand, the educational content plays a significant role in the process of delivering knowledge, especially in the field of distance education. The delivery of the web content for mobile devices depends on heterogeneous software and hardware environments; therefore, web content adaptation to various mobile environments is a challenge for the educational institutions. The Hellenic Open University (HOU), an educational institution which offers distance learning courses, has started to emphasize on the arising importance of m-learning with the aim to involve it in the educational process.Towards this direction, in this paper we aim to define different file formats of the digital educational content that can be reproduced by mobile devices regardless of the various operating systems. The clarification of the digital content output formats for mobile learning will contribute to the creation of a number of analytic guides with detailed technical specifications for the development of educational content for mobile devices. A massive technological trend is the rise in acceptance of mobile devices such as mobile phones, handheld computers, e-books and other devices, which can support a variety of tasks, such as speaking, sending text messages, taking photography, listening radio, watching digital TV, web browsing etc. .Recent advances in the features of mobile devices have led to an enhanced interest in the exploitation of mobile devices and significant changes are being made in the field of mobile technologies  Thus, mobile technology is influencing various sectors of society and has a major role to play in the future of education. The value of integrating mobile technologies within learning environments has been demonstrated extensively in the research literature . Mobile technology offers accessibility, mobility and flexibility to the users  and converts learning to portable, spontaneous and personal . In all the aforementioned aspects, technical barriers should be added such as the every time bandwidth availability. All these aspects are necessary for the educational content delivery through mobile devices . With the diversity of mobile devices, it is impossible to deliver the same or modified content to all devices.

In many cases, the content may not be appropriate for every device and the content is may suitable for only a certain number of devices. Consequently, content adaptation, which is the ability of a system to change in a dynamic way the content delivered in heterogeneous environments, is required to meet devices diversity Best CBSE School in Kumbakonam Particularly, main attributes that differ from one device to another, such as screen size, resolution, software, storage, file format support, network connectivity, are challenges in enabling mobile learning and content adaptation for diverse devices. The technical requirements are a major factor in the development and delivery of educational content which is compatible with heterogeneous mobile devices, especially in educational institutions, due to the large-scale of educational content. Thus, there is a need to clarify requirements for the development of educational content, facilitating the reproduction and support via mobile devices  Towards this direction, in these paper we aim to define digital content output formats for mobile devices driven through diverse operating systems. In order to address the challenge of inconsistency of different file formats supported by mobile devices we investigated which file formats are displayed commonly from varied operating systems. Accordingly, the work presented in this paper is the first attempt to present file formats supported by mobile devices relying on the diversity of both software and hardware environments. The main objective of this study is to clarify the digital content output formats for mobile learning through diverse mobile devices.
